The Ideal Hangover Cure

Mega Vintage Scout!

Thanks to all who came out and showed support at my website launch on Friday at Drink Shop & Do, it was such a blast and I was chuffed to be able to celebrate with all my chums! Welcome to all my new subscribers from the night- I hope you enjoyed your goodies bags!

I spent the following day recovering behind a large pair of sunglasses and allowed left over chocolate cake from the previous night to keep me sustained. I took a trip to a particular vintage store which I’d heard great things, so I was really excited to finally check out the calibre of this place:
The Vintage Emporium, St Albans, South England.

I must say this place certainly lived up to the hype. I could tell from the window display of unusual deco clocks, midcentury cameo wall plaques and atomic formica dining pieces that this place was going to pack a punch (cue salivating on arrival!).

It seems to be an arcade of sorts, which affords lots of variety.
There were great hats, tons of women’s wear and a healthy and pleasing amount of menswear. I didn’t see many sellers dealing in pre-1950s garments, but there were lots of accessories (gloves, hats, undergarments) which were much older.

There were some absolutely gorgeous selections of tableware, some stands with basic shelves crammed with old vintage favourites; clunky and reassuring. Others with minimal selections of collectible midcentury designs on covetable Danish sideboards. I held my restraint as much as possible -how many salt shakers does one woman need?! Sadly I still came home with another set. (That makes 5 now, but who’s counting?).

Here’s some in-situ shots to wet your appetite! This place is BIG, with a tea room attached, and another clothing space further down the back, so it is worth setting aside a couple of hours to leisurely root around. My favourite things about The Vintage Emporium – on this visit – were a few brilliant hats (one of which I couldn’t leave without), the selection of ceramics (did I mention them already?!), some great vintage paraphernalia and some absolute KILLER fabric. I had to say adieu to these curtains, it was very sweet sorrow!

I would highly recommend a visit to this place, I have vowed to do my Christmas shopping here because I was so spoilt for choice! Check out their Facebook page for details, and let me know if you visit! I’d love to see what you found!
